This feature is one of the (have to have) options for any GPS if you ask me, Every year or so building are knocked down, businesses move and new businesses are built and your GPS needs to know this in order to efficiently navigate you to and from your destinations. The Garmin Nuvi 2798LMT and backup camera offers free lifetime map updates. We usually do this when the customer would like a stealthy install with no wires showing. However, there are times when we use an adapter that converts the Garmin’s cigarette lighter plugin adapter to a power and ground wire. That adapter comes in the box and is simply plug and play. The actual GPS unit is installed up front only needs a cigarette lighter connection. Just remember you will have to physically press the backup camera button on the Garmin Display in order to see the backup camera image. Though we like to connect the backup camera module to a switched source that only powers when you are reversing you can connect it to a 12v accessory source that stays powered when the vehicle is on whether or not you are in reverse. The wireless backup camera has a power and ground that is generally tied in with the the reverse light circuit so that it is not always powered. This was made possible by the wireless backup camera module that wireless-ly sends the image to the Garmin GPS up front. The coolest part about the installation was that we didn’t need to run wires from the front of the vehicle all the way to the back. We found that this unit was stupid simple to install and even easier to use, couldn’t have enjoyed the installation any more than we did. Lately we have been installing them in fleet vehicles for large companies that handle deliveries.
